Ingredients:
Toor dal-1 cup
Onion-1
Tomatoes-2
Coriander leaves- a bunch
Coriander powder-2 tsp
Red chilli powder-2 tsp
Ginger-garlic paste-1 tsp
Cumin seeds-1 tsp
Cloves,cinnamon and elaichi
Salt
Procedure:
1. Boil toor dal and keep aside.
2. Grind half onion, ginger-garlic,coriander leaves,tomatoes, cumin seeds, coriander powder and red chilli powder and a pinch of sugar.
3. Slice the remaining onion into small pieces.
4.Heat butter in a pan and add cloves, cinnamom and elaichi. Immediately add onion and fry.
5. Add the masala paste and fry till the raw smell is gone.
6.Add dal,salt and little water and cook for 5 minutes.
I generally make this dal in the vessel I use to make ghee. So after removing ghee from the vessel, I use whatever is sticking to it instead of adding extra butter.
